Cleaning help in New York City
What should I include in a cleaning request?
List the rooms, their size, and the tasks you want done. Say what needs the most care and who will bring supplies. Agree on a clear task list rather than rely on labels like deep clean. Cleaning is on HandyFox's service list. Each pro must confirm which tasks they offer, where they work, and when they can come.
Make a task list
Start with the number of rooms and bathrooms. Say whether the home is empty or in use. Note heavy clutter, pet hair, grease, or areas that have not been cleaned for a while.
Words like standard, deep, and move-out can mean different things to each person. Name the work instead. For example, ask about floors, sinks, tubs, counters, and dusting. Say which rooms matter most if time runs short.
Ask what is outside the base scope
Do not assume one cleaning request includes every surface. Confirm tasks such as:
- Inside the oven or fridge.
- Inside cupboards, drawers, or closets.
- Windows and hard-to-reach areas.
- Laundry, dishes, or bed linen.
- Moving furniture to clean behind it.
These are questions to settle, not a list of services every pro offers. Ask whether the pro can do each task and how it affects the time and price.
Plan supplies and access
Ask who brings the vacuum, mop, cloths, and cleaning products. Tell the pro about surfaces that need special care. Share product rules and any known sensitivities before the visit.
Keep pets secure and put away private papers, medicine, and fragile items. Clear floors enough for the agreed work. Tell the pro how to enter and which areas are off limits. Do not post door codes or private details in public places.
Raise hazards before the job. Do not assume routine cleaning includes mold, pests, bodily waste, or other work that needs special training. Ask what is safe and in scope before anyone starts.
How is the cost set?
As of October 19, 2026, the HandyFox service setup has no set cleaning price. Pros set their own rates. Agree on hourly or flat-price terms, supplies, and any extra tasks. Read pricing to understand estimates, expenses, and card holds.
For a move-out clean, say whether belongings will be gone. If you also need help carrying them, use the moving guide to make a separate plan.
