Painting work in New York City
How should I plan a painting job with HandyFox?
List the rooms and surfaces you want painted. Share their size, current state, and the finish you want. Agree on prep, paint, coats, and cleanup with the pro. Painting is on HandyFox's service list. Each pro chooses their rates and work areas. Ask them to confirm the task, address, supplies, and time before you book.
Name each surface
A room name alone does not define a painting job. Say whether you want walls, ceilings, trim, doors, or all of them painted. Give rough room sizes and note high ceilings or hard-to-reach spots.
Tell the pro about peeling paint, stains, cracks, or damp areas. Do not assume that painting over a problem will fix its cause. Ask whether the surface needs repair or a separate assessment before paint work starts.
Agree on prep and materials
Set these details in writing:
- Who moves furniture and covers floors?
- What holes or cracks will be filled?
- What prep, primer, and number of coats are included?
- Who buys the paint, and which color and finish will be used?
- Who clears waste and puts the room back in order?
A paint color name can be vague. Share the brand and color code when you have them. Ask how a change from a dark to a light shade affects the plan. Do not assume extra coats or repairs are free.
Make a plan for the space
Check your building's work rules and ask about access hours. Agree on a safe place for tools and supplies. Tell the pro which rooms you need to use during the work.
Ask how to manage airflow, pets, and use of the room while the paint dries. Follow the paint maker's directions. The end of a work visit does not always mean the room is ready for full use.
If old paint or dust may pose a risk, raise that before sanding or scraping. This guide does not certify that a surface is safe or that a pro is qualified for special hazard work.
Compare the same scope
As of October 19, 2026, HandyFox sets no painting list price in its service setup. Pros set rates, and the app supports hourly or flat-price work. Compare quotes with the same surfaces, prep, coats, and supplies. Read pricing for expense and estimate rules.
If you need cleaning after the work, agree on that task rather than assume it is part of painting. The cleaning guide can help you define it.
Before you request a job
Read how it works and trust and safety. This guide does not confirm service at your address. Pros choose their work areas and open times. Confirm a match for your address, scope, and start date before you commit.
